Changing providers to help you achieve your needs

At Home Care Assistance, we’re centred on delivering quality support to seniors as they age at home. We specialise in Home Care Packages and are a local business, making us more personal than the national companies in the Newcastle region. That means that we can really take the time to get to know all our client’s wants, needs and preferences for their care.

There are plenty of reasons for changing home care package providers, and we hear from our new clients first hand their experiences and the difficulties with their previous providers. Frequent cancellation of services, difficulty reaching care managers, and long wait times for action have left people feeling unsupported when they need it most.

As enshrined in the Aged Care Charter of Rights, you have the right as a senior receiving aged care support to choose the care you receive and make informed decisions to live the life you choose.

“Just not feeling it” is also a completely acceptable reason to change home care providers! You do not have to justify your choice of home care provider to anyone. Because when it comes to your care, the choice is yours – and only yours!.

The Home Care Assistance Difference

Reach Out Today

For a bit of guidance or immediate help, we’re here for Novocastrian seniors in search for quality aged care to support them in the next chapter of their lives.

How do I change home care providers?

The aged care system can be complex, but we are here to help! You’re not alone on your aged care journey. Below is a summary on what the process looks like.

The quickest and easiest way is to call us today, so we can get you all the information you need to make your choice about your care.

All home care providers should be:

  • Responsive and quick acting in getting your support in place. Needs can change fast, which means your support needs to change ASAP!
  • Easily Reachable by clients, their personal support system and other parties involved in order to coordinate care.
  • Delivering on their Promises. Meeting your expectations and needs is so important in developing trust between a client and a home care provider.
  • Transparent in everything they do for their clients. All ‘hidden fees’ should be discussed in detail. Changes to Care Workers and delays in orders all need to be relayed in order for you to be an active participant in your own care.
  • Respectful. This is a necessity! Regardless of your identity, culture, gender, sex or religion.
  • Putting you as no 1 Priority

If you have any concerns that any pillars of your care are not being met, or not to the standard you would like, please don’t hesitate to give us a call!

It can be daunting hopping on the phone to a new provider when you aren’t entirely sure what you want. Here are some easy talking points to get you started.

Capacity
Asking if a new provider has capacity to take on new clients in your area gives you a good insight to the expected wait times to get set up as a new client and receive services.

Care Management
Having a dedicated care manager can ensure you won’t be passed around to multiple care managers to arrange your services

The Qualifications of care workers.
Do they have a certificate III (or equivalent) in Individual Support as well as current police checks and first aid?
If your care is complex, you may want to check if the provider employs registered nurses

Fees!
Basic Daily Fee is a very important factor in determining who you may change your provider to. A basic daily fee is an optional charge a Home Care Provider can elect to change their clients for using their services.
Any other fees that may apply, including your income tested care fee

At Home Care Assistance Newcastle, we do not charge a basic daily fee, we require formal qualifications for all of our care workers as well as current police checks and first aid. We employ registered nurses who are assigned as care managers to our clients with more complex clinical needs.

Have we met your criteria? Contact us to make the switch!

Hooray, you’ve decided to change providers and have found one that would take you on!

Next, you must call My Aged Care to release your home care package referral code and give it to your chosen new provider. Home Care Assistance can help you with this if you’re unsure. You must then notify your current provider and wait for the designated notice period in your  home care package agreement with them. Once you have an official end-of-services date, that becomes your start of services date with the new provider.

If you’re thinking of changing home care package providers to Home Care Assistance Newcastle, contact us whenever you’re ready and we’ll walk you through every step.

It varies! It is mainly dependent on the notice period you have with your current provider. If they are asking for an unrealistic time frame such as a few months, be sure to double check your home care package agreement that you signed with them or ask them for a copy if you cannot locate it.

In terms of implementing services, provider capacity plays a big role. Home Care Assistance always tries to be adaptable to your needs and can make any reasonable timeframe work you need.
