Your Aged Care Options

At Home Care Assistance Newcastle, we are here to guide you through the process of navigating the intricate Australian Aged Care System.

In Australia seniors have access to a number of government subsidised aged care options, including Commonwealth Home Support Packages, Home Care Packages and Residential Care.

Your level of aged care funding subsidy will be granted based on your specified care and support need to both ensure your health, home and wellbeing needs are met, as well as enabling you to live safely and independently at home.

Here at Home Care Assistance Newcastle, we are an approved provider of in-home aged care under the Home Care System.

Your How-To Guide to Access Government Subsidised Aged Care.

You or a loved one are over 65 (or over 50 if identifying as Indigenous) and find your needs at home are changing. You require support to stay in your own home.

If you only need a small amount of support, such as cleaning and home maintenance, you will likely receive services under Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP).

To advance from CHSP to the Home Care Package system there must be a few overlapping issues such social isolation, recent hospitalisations, changes in diagnoses, recent falls, changes in family support and/or a general increase in needs.

Call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422. They will do an over the phone review of your current care needs to determine whether you require an assessment from the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) for a Home Care Package, or a referral for CHSP services.

If you receive an ACAT referral, it will involve a detailed in-home review to determine the level of your care needs and the required home care package funding level to meet these assessed needs.

You will receive a letter after your ACAT assessment, outlining the the level of home care package you are eligible for. According to My Aged Care, current medium priority cases are waiting about 3-6 months for package approval.

Home Care Assistance can work with you to implement services on a private pay basis during the wait time to get you the support that you need.

Once you have been assigned a level 1, 2, 3 or 4 home care package you must select a home care provider – like Home Care Assistance.

We manage your package funds and provide the services you need. We can organise care workers, home modifications, the purchase of mobility aids and more.

We work with your GPs and allied health professionals to create a network of support around you.
